The Federation of Bombay Blood Banks (FBBB) is a self-supporting, non-profit umbrella body formed by 47 member blood banks in Mumbai, registered as a Charity Trust under the Bombay Public Trusts (B.P.T) Act, 1950. Established on October 1, 1980, FBBB works to promote voluntary blood donation and support its member blood centers, including government, municipal and Red Cross facilities. Its objectives include ensuring an adequate and safe city blood supply, standardizing technology and documentation among members, enabling blood exchange between banks, promoting scientific knowledge exchange, and conducting training for blood bank personnel. Activities are run through Executive, Scientific, Donor Motivation, Training and Newsletter committees, funded by donations from trusts, industrial houses and charity events, with contributions eligible for tax exemption under Section 80G.
